Things you should know about
Bayou La Batre
Bayou La Batre, Alabama is located in south Mobile County Alabama. It has over the years been owned by France, Spain, England, The Confederate States, and The United States of America.

As you probable have already heard the founder of Bayou La Batre was a Frenchmen by the name of Joseph Bousage in the 1780's. By this time France had lost control of the area but the French/Cajun culture would carry on. Many of the place names of the area today are of French origin such as Coden and San Souci. Actually Bayou La Batre got it's name from the battery the French maintained there.

One thing one should know about Bayou La Batre is how to pronounce it! I notice that many are changing it's pronunciation. People from other areas that know nothing about Bayou La Batre are looking at the name and pronouncing it the way it looks..... By - u - La - Bat - tree  ...... This is not the way old Bayou la Batre'ns say it! It should be pronounced.....  By'l - La - Bat - tree  .....
