
Nicholas
became Tzar in 1894 but his coronation did not
take place till two years later on May 14, 1896.
The coronation was done much like that of
Alexander III and took place in the Kremlin in
Moscow. The celebration lasted 21 days.

Disaster
took place during the celebrations when at
Khodynka Field 1,389 where crushed to death
trying to get free food and gifts. 1,300 where
seriously injured. This event was named
"Bloody Saturday". Afterwards that
evening, Nickolas attend a Ball hosted by a
French ambassador. In doing this Nicholas was
called by some........ "Bloody
Nicholas"
"You must not give you
enemies cause to say that the Young Tsar danced
while his dead subjects were being taken to the
mortuary"
